On January 7, 2025, Los Angeles, California experienced one of its most destructive fires, burning over 40,000 acres, destroying more than 17,000 homes, and displacing 200,000 people. To this day, it is estimated that only around 20 houses have been rebuilt.

Partnering with ASU, AGOG, and 4DV.AI, we set out to the Palisades to capture 3D environmental scans of the destructive aftermath of this disaster. The environmental storytelling within the initial captures became the concept for Out of the Ashes. Combining large-scale drone captures (Gaussian splatting) with on-the-ground photogrammetry scans, we created expansive, detailed renderings of the aftermath to showcase to the viewer.
